KUCHING, May 26 (Bernama) - Sarawak and Sabah will submit a joint resolution to the Youth and Sports Ministry soon to amend the Youth Development Act 2007 and Sports Development Act 1997.
Sarawak Social Development and Urbanization Minister, Datuk Seri William Mawan said certain aspects of the two Acts had to be amended as there were "lots of loopholes" that excluded the two states from playing their role in youth and sports development.
"We feel that our role is not there. We have no say (in youth and sports development) and things could simply bypass us.
"The resolution laid out the common stand of Sarawak and Sabah. It will be submitted to the federal ministry soon and to be amended before their extension to Sarawak and Sabah," he told reporters after the signing ceremony of the joint resolutions of the two Acts, here Tuesday.
Mawan and Sabah Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Peter Pang En Yin signed the mutual resolutions of the two Acts here Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Pang, who is also Sabah Minister of Youth and Sports, said certain parts of the two acts had to be amended considering the structure of the government administration of the two states was different from the other states in peninsulas Malaysia.
"In the joint resolution, we agreed to focus on the functions and responsibilities of the ministers taking charge of the development of youth and sports in respective states," he said.
The two resolutions had been brought up to the respective state cabinet for endorsement.
